Narrowgate Physiotherapy

How to Grow Your Practice as a Faith-Based Clinic

In most physiotherapy clinics, appointments run 20 to 30 minutes. Enough time to address a symptom. Not always enough to understand a person.

Jason, the founder of Narrowgate Physiotherapy, had spent enough time in that system to know the tradeoff wasn’t working for patients or practitioners. So two and a half years ago, he built something different: a small, values-led clinic where 45, 60, even 90-minute appointments are standard, and every patient is treated as a person, not a case number.

“I just wanted to give my best to clients and not sacrifice my ability to help people because of money or time constraints,” he says.

“We don’t see what we do as transactional. We operate out of love. The letters we write, the calls we make, often we’re not even being paid for that. We do it for the sake of the client.”

A practice built on different foundations

Narrowgate Physiotherapy is explicitly faith-based. “A lot of this company is a reflection of myself and my faith,” he says.

In practice, that means going further than most clinics would consider reasonable. Narrowgate’s team regularly writes letters, makes phone calls, and reaches out to employers, rehab consultants, and referring GPs. Little acts like these aren't directly billable, but they do make a direct impact on the patient.

Jonathan, a physiotherapist who joined the team a year and a half ago, describes it plainly: “We’re not just treating an injury. We’re becoming the patient’s voice by advocating for them across every stakeholder involved in their recovery.”

The clinic sees a wide range of cases, ranging from workers’ compensation, CTP, private clients, and Jason’s personal specialty: men’s health, including pelvic pain and prostate cancer recovery.

Filling capacity without compromising care

As Narrowgate grew, the focus was on building systems, deepening referral networks, and staying true to what the clinic stood for. But like any growing practice, there were appointment slots to fill.

White space in the calendar that represented both opportunity and overhead. That’s when Avaana reached out.

The value proposition was clear: Avaana wouldn’t send unqualified leads or require Narrowgate to invest in marketing. On the contrary, it would connect them with confirmed, booked workers’ compensation clients, filling gaps without disrupting the rhythm of the clinic.

“It fit into our picture really well. We didn’t really need to do any further nurturing. You guys sent clients to us to fill our slots.”

The most prepared batch of patients

What Narrowgate noticed about the clients Avaana referred to wasn't just that they showed up. It was the quality of the match.

Workers’ compensation patients referred through Avaana arrived differently prepared. They understood the system, had their support structures in place, and came with one clear goal: getting back to work.

“They were a lot more ready,” Jonathan recalls. “They knew what they were in for. It let us focus on the actual treatment, rather than spending half the session explaining how the workers’ comp process works.”

That meant more time doing what Narrowgate built itself to do: treating the whole person.

There were unexpected wins, too. The clinic’s first client from a major fast food chain came through Avaana - a small glimpse into the larger, employer-connected patient population the platform could unlock.

A smooth setup, backed by real support

Getting Avaana integrated with Narrowgate’s existing practice management software, Cliniko, required some early troubleshooting. The team credits Audrey on the Avaana support staff for making it straightforward.

“Audrey was super helpful. Whenever we called, she’d pick up and walk us through troubleshooting. Any issue was resolved within a day,” Jason says.

The Avaana dashboard also gave the team better visibility across their workers’ comp caseload, tracking sessions remaining, prompting timely HDRs, and reducing the administrative friction that can slow clinical momentum.

“It was very easy to be accountable with that system.”

Playing the long game

Narrowgate’s growth strategy is built on trust over volume. On delivering care so thorough that patients feel comfortable referring to their friends, families, and colleagues.

“We’re playing the long-term game,” Jason says. “People refer to us because they’ve had such a great experience that they say: my friend has this issue, go see Narrowgate.”

Avaana fits neatly into that approach. It expands reach, maintains quality, and gives a small but serious clinic room to do what it does best: care for people, without cutting corners.
